Fireplace Mantle

The fireplace mantle was quite a complicated project that involved a lot of steps. The design comes from the 'Taos Style' of furniture. I had built myself a bed in this style some years ago and was keen to try my hand at some of the joinery techniques involved again. The timber used is reclaimed 'Oregon' (Douglass Fir) and radiata pine. So the timber has small flaws and nail holes that give it a bit of extra character.
